Even though Athlete Recovery Fund is only 6 months since it's IRS approval as a 501 (c)3 we are getting some major publicity and recognition. This last week we were called to action to help with Mike Aitken. We continue to work with his family and their needs in this tough time. Before we were called to assist Mike Aitken we had just finished up a grant for Josh Heino who was injured in Cleveland, OH while competing in the AST Dew Tour Right Guard Open.

"I had a severe tibial plateau fracture from crashing on my bike at a Dew tour competition. I was outside of my insurance network at the location of the event, so I had some major hospital bills to pay. I had a huge challenge just to deal with the injury itself. Like not being able to walk for over four months, physical therapy, no work, and trying to support my family at the same time. The ARF took care of my emergency room bills with their program and saved me thousands, my family and I could not be thankful enough. The ARF is one of the best ideas I have ever heard of, and I am very grateful to have benefited from it, and I hope it can help other athletes as much as it has helped me." Josh Heino

ARF used it's non profit status to negotiate with the hospital and settle Josh Heino's bills for hundreds less than the original amount. Josh being sent to an out of network location is something that we are working to prevent in the future.

The insurance world is a very difficult one that requires expertise and that is why ARF is letting the Actions Sports Advisory Group take it over. Operating on their own dime, Jeff Suarez and Amanda Savage are teamed up to prevent things like this in the future. Working hand in hand with the athlete's and event medical staff to give them the data they need so that they know where to send each athlete in a time of need. The Action Sports Advisory Group is also heavily focused on Medical Insurance, Disability Insurance, Long Term Care and Catastrophic Insurance policies. Some of these will take time to achieve, but some help is available now! The Action Sports Advisory Group is established to provide athlete's with information so that they do not continue to go on un-insured or get in situations where insurance tries to deny coverage. ARF urges all athlete's with any questions regarding insurance to contact the Action Sports Advisory Group, they are here to help you. Jeff and Amanda will be attending the AST Dew Tour, Playstation Pro in Orlando FL this weekend. Otherwise they may be contacted by:
